Project Title: Family Portrait
By Brandi Donaldson
Vignette: The Unthinkable
In
my room alone, I think about what I like and dislike about my life or me, and
way to end it all – the suffering and the pity.
“You
can’t end it all,” I tell myself. “It
won’t help anything.”
“Of
course it will,” I argue. “Nobody will
have to worry about me ever again.”
“You
think it’ll be so much better without you, don’t you?”
I scream. “Well, it wouldn’t be! All the
guys at school would miss you and so would your friends.
“My family will be better off
without me,” I counter.
“No
they won’t,” I scream in response.
“Maybe
if I just tamper with it. . . “
“No!”
I scream. “Something will end up
happening. What you think will be better will actually happen. It’ll just destroy the ones you love.”
