The Dance
By Alyssa Gregory

When I thought about you, I thought you were funny, but I never gave you another thought. But when I saw you with her last night, I kept thinking how much I wanted to be her. She looked so happy hanging on your arm and looking up at you with adoration. She hung on your every word like you were a god. Everything you said was funny. She laughed like a princess and smiled so brilliantly. I thought she so perfect; how could I have ever dreamed of you even giving me the privilege of seeing you stealing a glance?

But when you asked me if I would like to dance, I jumped up and shouted, “YES!” I was so scared. There were butterflies in my stomach and fireflies in the air. Every awkward step I took led me to trampling your feet. But still we kept on dancing. And I remember wishing the night would never end.

Still here we are -- five years later -- dancing together like we did back then. Today is different because you’re mine now and forever – my dancing partner for life.
