Setting Descriptions

Cue: Describe a public place where adults are interacting with each other and the location.

“With its bright yellow walls and soft comfortable seats, Polly’s Diner was the perfect place for gossip.  Every day the older women of the town would walk through the glass door and take a seat in the back booths and become surrounded by warm smells of cinnamon and freshly-baked breads. Once snuggled into the cushioned seats with their old hands wrapped comfortably around a warm mug, their mouths seemed to be able to talk forever.”
-- Alyssa Gregory

Cue: Describe an optimistic nature scene full of innocence and life.

“The lush-green trees outlined the muddy-blue water of the winding river that flowed gently around the bend. The fish seemed to jump out at the sun but then fall gently back into the river to try again later. Deer frolicked slowly across the soft riverbank to get a drink and cool off from the summer day.”
-- Dawson Leatherman

Cue: Describe an optimistic nature scene full of innocence and life.

“The palm trees sway from side to side.  The sunlight sparkles upon the blue waters.  All the animals roam around without a care, eating food without being scared. There’s no point in hiding for they never have to.”
-- Mollie McCann

“Her dark ocean-blue eyes looked at a tall dark-haired young man. They were standing by a silver truck in a big half-empty parking lot. The truck was a 1985 Chevy two door with a sticker on the back. The steaming hot parking lot was like a hot pan of water off the stove.”
-- Ouida Nash

Cue: Describe a pessimistic nature scene full of destruction and sorrow.

“During my young’un years it used to be so peaceful and the grass was lush and everything had life. Then an evil wench came into control. She turned the lands dark and dreadful. Now no little animals roam like tiny little kids as they used to. The what-used-to-be white puffy clouds are now deflated and dark like a burnt pancake.”
-- Ashley Strother

Cue: Describe a pessimistic nature scene full of destruction and sorrow.

“Just about ten miles south of the annoyingly-obnoxious New York City lies the small little countryside town.  It soon won’t be here.  The birds, squirrels, and other little animals will then have no place to sleep or nest.  Our country that is left is soon going to be part of that huge city or maybe just another highway to some other state.”
